Impact shows 100% of children reporting an increase in their wellbeing

“I’ve had the best time with my mentor because I haven’t been outside that much. And on the

weekends I don’t go out so I’ve had the best time of my life being able to go out” Mentee at 12-month impact collection

We are beyond proud of the impact The Kids Network had in 2023 for 307 little Londoners who really needed a mentor.

Our report shows many children are feeling isolated and emotionally adrift, and the impact of poor mental health looms large over the landscape of childhood in the UK. Factors such as academic stress, family instability, and the omnipresence of social media conspire to undermine the mental wellbeing of our nation’s children and cast a long shadow over their future lives.

In our latest Impact Report you can read about all the barriers the children we work with are facing, but you can also read about the tremendous work that the children, the volunteer mentors and our team do to support little Londoners to overcome those challenges, take control of their futures, and fulfil our mission that every child deserves to live the lives they deserve.

We intervene early in a child’s life, working with children for 12 months as they transition from primary to secondary school. Through sessions focussed on having fun, building connections, sharing power and setting goals we help children build trust, understand their choices and look forward to the future.  Over the course of the year our mentors make a significant changes to each child’s life.

“I think The Kids Network has really changed me and [my mentor] too!”Mentee at 12 month impact collection

  • 100% of the children reported an increase in wellbeing, such as increase self-confidence and sense of identity
  • 99% of children reported an increase in tools for the future, such as increasing their aspirations
  • 91% of children reported an increase in their social and emotional capabilities, such as the ability to develop positive relationships

We could never make the impact we make without the support from our volunteer mentors, our funders, the schools we work with, the caregivers of the mentees, our trustees and the hard work and dedication of the passionate staff team at the charity.
