About us

Founded by Sarah Woodcock in 2017, The Kids Network is a trauma-informed, child-led programme operating across London – facilitating thousands of mentor hours that support hundreds of children every year.

We've set ourselves ambitious strategic goals to guide our work and bring our programme to more children in more places than ever before. We've laid out our next five years of objectives in our new 2025-2030 Strategy document.

Our mission and values still follow Sarah’s original vision:
Vision
Every child gets to live the life they choose.
Values
Fun, connection, diversity, curiosity and integrity.
Mission
To make meaningful connections in our communities and to support children through mentoring to feel happy and confident about themselves and their futures.

WE ARE ANTI-OPPRESSION

The Kids Network exists because children in London disproportionately experience adverse childhood experiences due to systemic minoritisation.

We want every person in our community to feel safe, empowered, brave, valued and heard. We also want them to have the opportunity to develop their anti-oppression literacy.

We take a trauma-informed approach to anti-oppression work, as with all of our work. This means acknowledging the whole person and focusing on developing the child’s resilience.

Our Patron

Sir Quentin Blake is one of the most popular and best-loved illustrators in the world.

He has illustrated over 300 books, is known for his own picture books for children and his work with writers such as Michael Rosen, John Yeoman and Russell Hoban, and not least for his long collaboration with Roald Dahl. In recent years he has also created works for public spaces, notably for a dozen hospitals.

We all want to help open children’s minds to the possibilities of life, both practical and imaginative.

As someone who has tried to do this in books and pictures it’s rewarding to be able to support the enterprising people who have taken on the task of doing it in person.
