WHO WE HELP AND HOW IT WORKS

The Kids Network is a proven early intervention, community-based mentoring programme specifically designed to have a positive impact on the social and emotional well-being of Key Stage 2 children, aged 8-11.

Our 12-month programme matches a child to a fully DBS-checked and trained mentor for weekly sessions after school or at weekends. Our programme provides children with a third space between home and school and supports them to develop social and emotional skills. Alongside their mentor, children explore London while learning about themselves and how to navigate relationships, transitions and endings positively.

Our partner schools can directly refer children and have a dedicated Programme Manager who provides regular progress reports and safeguarding liaison. TKN handles all the admin and the matching process keeping the workload for the school to a minimum – and all the mentoring sessions take place out of school hours.

We work across London, so please get in touch to see if we can support your school.

Hear from our schools

We have seen children gain confidence, increased self-esteem and valuable skills that will see them through to secondary school and beyond.

Pupils gain a great deal from the dedicated one-to-one time offered by a mentor, often looking forward to this as the only time in their week where they can be the main focus of attention.

I have noticed that the children are happier, more confident and more resilient. They often speak about the new things that they have seen and heard and are proud of what they’ve achieved.

Putting additional support around the children who need it

With large classroom sizes and complex home lives, we know that not all children get that one-to-one support they need. Schools refer pupils who they feel would benefit from the extra support of meeting with a mentor each week for an entire year. A child can be referred to our programme for a range of reasons – there is no typical child on the programme.

Some reasons pupils might be referred:

  • Low confidence or self-esteem
  • They are or have been young carers
  • They could benefit from more social and emotional support
  • They have experienced an adverse childhood experience
