Festive and Fun Activities to Do With Your #LittleLondoner This Winter

Winter in London is a magical time, especially for children.

With The Kids Network, mentees and their mentors get to enjoy special moments together, making memories that last a lifetime.

With just £35 a month, the budget each mentor receives to spend on activities chosen by their mentee, there’s no limit to the joy and creativity that can unfold.  And lots of activities around the city are free so the budget can be spent on something extra special this season.

Here are some festive ideas that fit snugly into this budget while bringing big smiles to both #LittleLondoners and their mentors:

1. Get cosy with hot chocolate

A favourite activity amongst a lot of our mentors and mentees already, you could head to a a local café for mugs of hot chocolate or a new festive drink. It's the perfect opportunity to chat, connect, and warm up after an outdoor adventure.

2. Light it up with London's Christmas Lights

Take a walk through Covent Garden with the famous tree or head to Kew Gardens for their illuminated trails. Experiencing the magic of Christmas lights together is an enchanting way to make the season come alive. Be sure to remember gloves and a scarf!

3. Ice Skating

Many London ice rinks offer child-friendly sessions, and skating together can be both exciting and funny! It’s a fantastic way to build confidence and try something new. Let’s see how well you both do at this Christmassy treat.

4. Get Creative with Christmas Crafts

From making cards to starting a festive page in your mentoring scrapbook, arts and crafts allow children to express themselves while creating keepsakes they’ll treasure forever. Plus - who doesn’t love a bit of glitter at this time of year?

5. Follow a Penguin Parade Sculpture Trail

Find and explore one of the many public sculpture trails around London, if your mentee is into their wildlife and animal - this could be a great idea to discover the city again on a mission!

6. Decorate Gingerbread Men

A little baking and decorating fun can fill an afternoon with laughter—and tasty results.  You can get pre-prepared gingerbread decorating kits from the local supermarket, create your own characters and then eat your tasty treats alongside a hot chocolate.

Giving the gift of joy

It’s not just about the money—it’s about the moments.

For many children, this £35 budget represents a chance to try new things, explore their city, and spend meaningful time with a trusted mentor who helps them develop and grow not only in confidence, but also in mental resilience and wellbeing.

From our Impact Report 2024, 100% of the children we worked with reported that they really enjoyed time spent with their mentor and had improved wellbeing.

In a city as busy as London, £35 can stretch to create magical experiences that children will remember long after the lights are put away at the new year.

To put it in perspective, £35 could buy a festive meal out or a few fancy candles for yourself—or it could fund a month’s worth of unforgettable activities for a child. The impact is immeasurable.

This Christmas, why not spread the cheer? By donating £35, you can help create moments of laughter, creativity, and connection for a child in London. You’re not just funding activities—you’re giving the gift of mentorship, joy, and a brighter future.

Let’s make this Christmas one to remember for every #LittleLondoner.
